The Problem: Coolant Temperature Gauge Reads Incorrectly or Not at All
The Fix:
Clean and tighten the connections
Remove the wire from sending unit, ground the wire for an instant. If gauge registers, replace sending unit
Disconnect the wiring for the sending unit and ground the wire. Gauge should read hot. If not, the gauge is defective
The Problem: Voltage Gauge Reads Incorrectly or Not at All
The Fix:
Make sure connections aren’t reversed and fix if needed
Check for loose connections
The Problem: Oil Pressure Gauge Reads Incorrectly or Not at All
The Fix:
Check tube for kinks that may be preventing oil from reaching the gauge
Remove the sending unit. If no oil flows from the sending unit hole, the problem is with the engine
Remove the wire from the sending unit and ground — if the gauge is working it will go all the way up
Check the wiring for the gauge with an ohmmeter to make sure it’s registering. If not, replace gauge
The Problem: All Gauges Are Not Operating Properly
The Fix:
Check the fuse for the cluster and replace if blown
Clean contacts on the instrument voltage regulator
Replace instrument voltage regulator
The Problem: Warning Lights Are On/Off When They’re Not Supposed to Be
The Fix:
If the warning lights are not coming on when the ignition is in the “On” position, replace bulbs
If the warning lights are on, it’s usually a problem with the system and ECM will need to be scanned
If no such problems exist but the warning lights are on, check the sending unit
